 South China Updates: June 2011

06.16.2011

Happy (almost) summer!

Things have been quiet on the South China front, though we’re finding ourselves quite busy with backing up some great projects and one night only performances around the area. Jeremy is continuing to build a local following with his solo project, Drab Pony. We have recording plans this summer, so keep yer eyes peeled and ears to the ground…

Tea First Compilation

Our dear friends at Tea First Records finished a sweet compilation and have just released it for your enjoyment! We wrote up a little instrumental ditty to contribute to the project, and you can check it out at the Tea First website. It’s a gorgeous compilation, featuring tracks from international and northeastern US artists.

And…we have a small run of very exciting shows coming up next week. On Tuesday, June 21st, we’ll be in Richmond, VA (one of our favorite cities), at the Listening Room.  South China Updates: New Song, Shows, Poetry Out Loud

01.31.2011

Hello!

This winter has been way busier than we expected it to be. We’ve had
many opportunities to perform with our other musical projects and to
back up our friends. Also, Jerusha has started a blog called “Bow and
Bind
“, mostly about music and knitting. She’s been working for a small yarn company based here in Portland, and recently began traveling the country to help with trade shows.

Though we’ve got a lot going on at the moment, we are winding down to
work on a new album.

Seasonal Disorder: Winter
This year, Portsmouth/Portland-based label Burst & Bloom is putting out four seasonal compilation CDs, featuring many songwriters and bands from New England and beyond. The first installment of the series, “Seasonal Disorder:
Winter”, will be released this February.

The compilation features new songs by South China, Dan Blakeslee,
Winter Sons, Jason Anderson, Emily Hope Price, and 11 more artists!
You can listen and download it at the Burst & Bloom Band Camp site. A physical CD will be released later this month, with gorgeous photography and design by Micheal Winters.

Here’s a link to our song “The Big Hill“.

Poetry Out Loud
The National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation have
formed a partnership with state arts agencies to support the expansion
of Poetry Out Loud, which encourages the nation’s youth to learn
about great poetry through memorization and performance.

This Thursday, February 3rd, we are the musical guest at the Poetry
Out Loud
event to be held in the City Theater in Biddeford, ME. We will be joined on stage by some of the drummers from Coastal Tech Percussion on our song “Sun Sets on Washington Ave”!

This FREE event runs from 4-7pm.

On Saturday, March 5th, we’ll be playing a few songs to open the
release show of Audrey Ryan’s new album, “Thick Skin”. Other openers will be Cuddle Magic and our favorite Rhode Islanders, Brown Bird, after which all of us will become the backing band for Audrey’s set! The songs are simply beautiful and we’re so excited to be a part of this performance.

The show will take place in the Nave Gallery , a gorgeous sanctuary in the
Clarendon Hill Presbyterian Church in Somerville, MA. More details will be forthcoming in our next newsletter.

Future Recordings
February means it is time again for the RPM Challenge, where you are challenged to write and rercord an album in the shortest month of the year. Jeremy will be joining forces with Guy Capecelatro III on this. We will post a link to their finished project at the end of the month.

South China Updates: New Shows, Acadia Sessions

01.3.2011

Hello and Happy New Year!

We hope this finds everyone safe and happy.

We’ve been enjoying the fall and winter playing with friends and
experimenting with some new sounds for our own music. Jeremy has begun
to branch out with his own solo project, Drab Pony, which you should
definitely check out if you get the chance.

*Paper Cutting Opening*
We are so excited to head down to Newburyport on Friday, January 7th, to
play for Dylan Metrano’s art opening at the Carry Out Cafe. This will be
his first solo exhibit in Newburyport. Dylan creates gorgeous paper
cuttings of various flora and fauna, and favorite views of Monhegan
Island, where he spends his summers. Take a look at some of his work on
his blog, metrano.blogspot.com .
