 Brown Bird – January 2011

01.5.2011

And there’s a hand, my trusty fiere,
And gie’s a hand o’ thine!
And we’ll tak a right guid-willie waught
For auld lang syne.

2010 was a good year for us: full of good changes, positive growth and great people. We have much to look forward to, and much to remember with fondness. Thanks to everyone who helped make 2010 so wonderful.

And now to welcome in the New Year…

We had a magical time at The Hogfarm in Biddeford, ME on New Year’s Eve, sharing the stage with our friends (and original Brown Bird Members) Jeremy and Jerusha Robinson, of South China. Check them out if you haven’t already. They are two of the finest musicians and people we know.

We’ll be up in Vermont this Friday at Headroom Stages in Brattleboro, and aside from a quick jaunt to Syracuse later in the month (details to come), January will find us close to home, recording the new album, getting acquainted with our new label (!), and sipping hot toddies by the stoveside with our big orange cat.

We hope everyone is entering 2011 in good health and high spirits!
Take care,
-Brown Bird

 Foam Castles – hello

12.20.2010

If you keep an eye on our SoundCloud, you can hear some songs I’ve been semi-regularly sharing. They’re in-progress, castaways, demos, etc. May try to compile some of the electronic-based tracks onto an EP at some point soon…

We are playing a show with the ever-existent GULLY and the new, huge ensemble SUNSET HEARTS at the Empire Room in Portland on January 8th, a Saturday. Check out that Facebook event. We’ll also be involved in some capacity with the final installment of Space Gallery’s DEAD OF WINTER at the end of January.

In a few weeks we’ll begin the real tracking of the fourth Foam Castles full-length, the follow-up to Molly’s Jungle. D.J. Moore, Tyler Quist, Mandy Wheeler and myself will be the primary players on this effort.

I think that’s it!

 Brown Bird-Nov

10.29.2010

Happy Halloween; Happy Harvest.

November is upon us! Jackets are being pulled from cedar chests, gardens are being harvested, squirrels are scavanging, and Brown Bird is preparing for a tiny tour.
Into the woods…

October was fruitful in many ways for us; starting with a great show at Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel with Zox, and ending with a sold out night at AS220 with Dark Dark Dark, Spirits of the Red City and our good friend Liz Isenberg. (Many thanks to everyone who came out to those shows. It feels good to be part of such a strong Providence family.) We have also accrued some new photographic materials, thanks to our friend Mikael Kennedy, (photo credit below) and now have almost solid plans to record in January.

November finds us playing shows all over New England, and sends us on our affore-mentioned tiny tour at the end of the month. We’ll only be going as far south at Virginia, but we look forward to seeing many of you during our travels.
We hope the Thanksgiving season finds everyone in high spirits, good company and warm homes.
